Golf Tips for Beginners

You want to learn to play golf, but you just don’t know how to get started. What are the basic things needed? How do you actually get into it? Here are some things you have to know to take you off a jump start:

Appropriate Attire

Before you learn to swing the club, you have to know the things you have to wear for the game. Playing golf requires a dress code that shows proper decorum and etiquette. You could not just step into the game wearing whatever suits your taste and fashion. For tops, collared ones are traditionally required, most preferably those that are made of traditional cotton, microfiber, or polyester. Turtlenecks are also accepted in some courses.

T-shirts, tank tops, halter, bathing suit tops, and tube tops are definitely not allowed. For bottoms, knee-length shorts and pants are accepted. Cotton-made shorts and pants are widely popular. Jeans, jean shorts, workout, running, or basketball shorts are big no-no’s in the course. Women may wear long trousers, capris, dress shorts, and golf skirts/skorts. When it comes to footwear, there are socks and shoes designed for golf players. Gloves are not necessarily needed, but it is recommended for all levels. Their purpose is mainly to improve grips. Equipment

Always make sure that you get the right equipment for the game. Don’t simply go into the store and pick whatever you like. There are important things you have to consider when buying golf club sets. As a novice, you don’t necessarily need to carry around 14 clubs in your bag. Just secure a driver, putter, sand wedge, and have those supplemented with a 6-iron, an 8-iron, a pitching wedge, and a fairway wood or hybrid with 18-21 degrees of loft. Aside from these, choose the right ball. It is advisable that you buy balls that cost around $20 a dozen.

Mentor

Find the right mentor who is knowledgeable enough to teach you and demonstrate the basics. Don’t just swing by yourself. It will absolutely lead you to nowhere. Set schedule for lessons with the professional and learn as much as you can.

Start Small

Everything great always begins with being small. It’s not that you are not encouraged to become ambitious with this sport, but rather you are just directed to start with little steps. Learn to take short shots, and eventually, learn long shots when you get better.

Practice

No one gets better without consistent practice. Allocate time for play every day. Practice as if you are the worst player. You will surely be surprised how good you can get when you do so.
